Adam Enbar and Avi Flombaum launched a school in 2012 named Flatiron, based in New York City. The school offers courses on the following: coding, cyber security, and data science. Adam explains that they wanted to focus their training on what is HOT in the market and where jobs are trending upwards. If you are interested in what they offer, you can enroll and take classes in person at any of their eight (8) campuses and even online. With so many educational schools/options available, I’m sure you want to know if what Adam and Avi offer is a good choice if you want to pursue a career in technology. Also, what are people saying about their training? How much does the tuition cost? I will answer all your questions; here is my Flatiron School review. But,

Before I start…

Many SCAMMY programs out there claim to give you results, but ultimately, they blow nothing but HOT air. So if you are tired of programs that don’t produce results, I want you to check out the following Tiny Two Page Website That Makes Us $40,000/Month

Before these guys started to market their Flatiron School as one of the BEST Coding Bootcamps for tech geeks (according to Career Karma), Adam Enbar and Avi Flombaum had to deal with some tough times. For example, in 2014 and 2015, these guys had to take two (2) rounds of funding, and in 2017, the Flatiron School was sued by the New York State Attorney General for violating a few regulations. The word is they operated without a license and were also involved with false advertising. What were they false advertising? According to Wikipedia, the Flatiron School stated they had a 98.5% employment rate for graduates, but they failed to disclose this number also included students doing apprentice work and those who were freelancers. It gets worse; they went on to state the average salary for their graduate was approximately $74,447. Unfortunately, this number only represents those who landed full-time positions. Flatiron was slapped on the wrist with a $375,000 penalty, which they agreed to pay. Let’s continue…

Something special also happened later in 2017: WeWork decided to purchase the Flatiron School. You can learn more about the buyout by watching the WeWork documentary on Hulu. After the purchase, something called Access Labs was introduced to make education more affordable to those going through financial hardship. The Flatiron Bootcamp acquired a UX/UI design school (named Designation) in Chicago in 2018. Flatiron locations continued to open up in places like Houston, Austin, Denver, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. The latest, three years ago in 2020, Carrick Capital Partners decided to purchase the Flatiron School from WeWork. If you think about it, in 2017, WeWork purchased Flatiron, and they sold it to another company for a massive profit not long after. Smart business move…right? So, let’s crunch some numbers…but before I continue…

How much does Flatiron School cost? Supposedly, to enroll in Flatiron, you first have to put down a $500 deposit. Once you put down the deposit, you are responsible for paying the FULL tuition in one lump sum before classes start. The lump sum is $16,900. The school offers third-party “competitive financing” options you can learn more about on their website. Ok…to start your education journey with them, you have to submit an application, go through an interview with someone from the admissions department, submit a sample assignment and go through it with an instructor. After completing all this, you have to wait for a decision letter telling you if you have been accepted into the Flatiron School. Now that you know how much is Flatiron School, let’s talk about some requirements…

First, you need your own computer for your classes, and it takes approximately three (3) and a half months for those students taking classes on campus to graduate. Virtual students take a bit longer, around five (5) and fifteen (15) months. “It’s intense learning, and we want students to have the best education but be ready to hit the market soon after. We don’t think students should be spending 3-4 years completing their education,”  explains Adam. That said, students should be prepared to devote 60+ hours per week spread across lectures, projects, assignments, and studying. So,

What about the Flatiron School reviews? I know this is a question many of you have, and I’m happy to say they are generally positive. Columnists have said, “It’s an intensive program that requires your focus. You will be doing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ruby, and GitHub, which takes enormous dedication.” says Wendy McNair on Course Report. The Software Engineering program has five (5) modules, and the cool thing is you do practical work building a project at the end of each module. Word is that educators and instructors are super knowledgeable, providing support when you need it while pushing you to strive for the best.

I read a Flatiron Bootcamp review where someone complained about an “alien-like culture.” However, even after leaving this review, they agreed their overall experience was positive because they were able to land a job as a software engineer right after graduating, which paid well. Rebecca Poulson left this review on a Quora thread! Here are my final thoughts…

The Flatiron School is perfect for those who love technology and want to work with computers. But what about those who aren’t? I recommend you save the money and invest a small portion into starting an internet business. Why? Because you would have complete control over your hours, and the income is insane once you get it going. If you don’t believe me, check out some of the net worth of people I’ve written about. If you agree, I encourage you to check out another business that involves setting up digital real estate properties. It’s less effort, and I collect a nice $500-$2,000+ checks every month afterward (AKA passive income). If you want to LEARN more, then…

Before you leave

I love what I was able to do with this…my favourite program, which helped me make $200k in the last 12 months alone!
