  • So I have a criminal background I have several property crime enhancements (that is felony shoplifting) I have a possession of meth from when I was in active addiction. I have been clean for awhile now but I would like to continue my degree but I need to know if I can with my background. Can anyone give me any insight on this. I live in south Carolina.

How long have you been clean for? If you have been clean for a while, you may be able to have these felonies removed from your record. We will wait for your reply and contact our partners in South Carolina to get some more information for you.

How long does the conviction have to be before you can ask them for a removal or your criminal record?

Hi,

This depends on your STATE. What STATE do you live in?

I havent been in trouble in 17 years. My felony conviction is 17 years old. It is federal so I can't get it expunged. I live in Tennessee. Will this effect me in becoming a CNA?

I have a criminal record and they are felonies. I finished everything in 2012 so I am finish with CNA but I am wondering if I can the test or I have to get an exemption? The crimes are grand thief charges, but clean since 2012. I have the nursing assistant but I want to be certified. What is the first step

Hello I have a possession of paraphernalia and it was a withheld of adjustcation and it was in the state of Florida. I just applied for my cna license and I am also in nursing school this event happened in 2014 and is the only thing on my record I received that they are reviewing my application and the background community is looking into. It’s been about 7 years do you think I will be able to become a cna I’m doing this before my RN degree and got into the program after they too reviewed my application and had to write a letter. Please get back to me

Hi Casper,

Possession of drug paraphernalia CAN stop you from getting your license. However, each STATE is different so it will depend on the STATE. For example, here is an article from Texas that answers this question (Click here). I know you are in Florida so you are better off calling the Nursing Board of Florida to get more information. There are a few things they do consider when determining if you are eligible for your license:

1) When the convection happen

2) How serious the conviction

3) if it is the only conviction on your record.

Also,

Now that it has been over 7 years, why do you NOT get it removed from your record? There is a process called expunge where this charge is removed completely. This would be a great option especially because you plan on advancing in your career in the future.
